Teen Employment

Friday January 6, 2006
I was watching Oprah the other day. The topic of the show was "Total Money Makeovers." Among the guests was a family with two teenagers. Both had cars in addition to other expensive things, all bought for them by their parents. Neither child had a job, something with which the guest expert, Dave Ramsey, took great issue. Mr. Ramsey felt the parents were doing their children a great disservice by not requiring them to have jobs. I agree. Working teaches kids responsibilty and helps prepare them for the future. U.S. law allows children 14 and older to work, but limits the type of work and the number of hours they can spend on the job. Find out more with this state-by-state guide to teen employment.
