Teacher: A Career Brief

Wednesday September 12, 2007
I have a love-hate relationship with teachers. I think the good ones are amazing human beings and deserve every cent they get paid and in fact should get paid a lot more. The bad or mediocre ones shouldn't be employed. This year, so far, I think my seventh grader has some pretty great teachers. One, for example, has put together a comprehensive Web Site that his students can access to learn more about what they are doing in class. Another one, I heard from someone, teaches his students how to write a college-quality paper. As a result my daughter, who sometimes seems ambivalent about school, seems quite enthusiastic this year. I think that in order to be successful in most fields, you need to enjoy your work. To be a successful teacher, you need to be passionate about it. If not, how can you get up in front of a classroom and convey a love of learning to your students?

Do you think you have what it takes to be a great teacher? First you need to learn more about this field. It's the one career we've all been exposed to since we were all students at some point, but I'm sure you don't know everything there is to know about it.You already know the schedule is pretty decent. I mean, what can be wrong with getting summers off? Well, the pay sometimes leaves a lot to be desired, considering the amount of education you need to become a teacher. Find out how much teachers earn, what educational and other requirements there are and, most importantly, what a teacher's job involves. Read Teacher: Career Information.
