Take a Time Out

Thursday June 26, 2008
If someone is awake in my house there's usually at least one computer turned on. My husband and I both check our email frequently. Neither of us owns a mobile device that allows us to check our email when we aren't home and I hope it stays that way. I promised my husband that if he ever gets a Blackberry, I will destroy it. Well, I probably wouldn't really do it but I sincerely hope it never comes to that. Everyone needs to get away from work occasionally.

I work from home full time and my husband works from home part of the week. It's very difficult to draw a line separating work time from downtime. When I leave the house, that's my downtime. My husband might take a work-related call on his cell phone while we're out, but usually he waits until we're back home or he's at the office. Our summer vacation is a no-work zone. It gives us the opportunity to spend time together as a family with no intrusions. It also allows us to relax which in turn lets us return to work with renewed energy.
