Must You Have a Resume?

Thursday July 17, 2008
I just read Louise Fletcher's post, No, You Can't Do Without a Resume on the Career Hub blog. Louise, a professional resume writer, is responding to a post on another blog, BlueSteps, on the topic of personal brand management. That post seems to advise business executives to do without a resume. Louise, as you can see from the title of her post, strongly disagrees with this advice. I do too. How will a company respond, she asks, when they ask for your resume and you say "I don't use a resume."

Of course simply having a resume isn't good enough. You must have an excellent resume. As Louise puts it: "your resume must communicate your unique story. It must show why you are the perfect person to help your target company to meet its goals. It must help you to stand out, showing why you are uniquely qualified for the role. All this takes time and effort, but its well worth the work." If you don't know how to get started with your resume, Louise offers free resume writing help on her Web Site The Complete Guide to Resume Writing.
