I Resolve to Stop Procrastinating

Friday December 26, 2008
I don't usually make new year's resolutions. I know there's a lot I need to improve on, but I'm usually too overwhelmed this time of year to deal with that. Besides, I make resolutions at other times. The nice thing about not making resolutions at a traditional time of year is that there's less pressure — no ones is asking me whether I've managed to keep a resolution when they don't even know I've made it. Who would even think to ask me about a resolution I made on, let's say, April 24?

This year I'm going to make an exception to my "no new year's resolutions" policy. I resolve to stop procrastinating. There are a lot of things I put off doing, usually because I find them undesirable. For example, I don't like making phone calls so when there's one I have to make, I delay doing it as long as I can. I set aside my bills until the last minute because bill paying, to me, is such a tedious chore. Another thing I put off as long as possible is mending clothes, for example fixing a hem or sewing on a missing button. The good news is that I usually get to most work-related tasks in a timely fashion.
