Think Before You Speak ... or Type

If ever there was a story that clearly and emphatically illustrates why you should always take the time to think about the ramifications of your actions, this is it. I read about this on the Work Buzz in a post written by Rachel Zupek, but the story to which she refers was originally posted on BrightMove's Recruiting Blog. Recruiter Nanci Lamborn was reviewing resumes and as she went through them she sent a short email to each applicant to let them know she had received their resume and would be in touch. As she points out in her post, "At least this is better than the apparently more common black hole of no response, or so I assumed."

One of the applicants sent back a scorching tirade in response to her email. I won't reprint it here (see the original post), but his subject line was "B...s" (abbreviated here as not to offend some of our readers). It didn't get any better from there ... how could it? Had this applicant thought before he acted, he may have found himself with a new job — Nanci Lamborn said she had initially put his resume in the short pile of potential candidates. Now, she says, she will never forget his name. And not in a good way.

I read the article and agree with the fact that with so many jobless people and not enough resources for HR to recruit we have become mired in life. I do not agree with insults by either potential employees or employers. Just like employers not hiring employees who lose their cool, the same can be said of employees not being hired by rude employers.
I am an out of work person who is very frustrated with no progress of work in sight. But, as it does get me down, I look forward to rebuilding parts of myself that need improvements in today’s working field. ( Or lack of).
