Taking Minutes

Follow me on:

Your boss asks you to do her a favor. Her secretary is out sick and she needs someone to take minutes at the weekly department meeting. The task sounds like a simple one, but don't underestimate its importance.

Since minutes serve as an official record of a meeting, they must be accurate and complete. You must pay close attention to everything being said which means staying focused throughout the entire meeting, no matter how boring it is and regardless of how much else is on your mind. This means you can't text or check email (you shouldn't be doing either during a meeting anyway) or even daydream.
