I get a ton of email from people asking questions about pregnancy as it relates to their jobs. So I wasn't terribly surprised to see an article in the news about a pregnancy discrimination law suit. It was a little surprising, however, to find out that the plaintiff in the suit is Mothers Work, a maternity wear company.
Today I received yet another letter from a pregnant woman: "I am beginning to have complications from my pregnancy and my doctor would like me to cut back the hours that I am working." The writer's supervisor wasn't very understanding and she's afraid she'll be terminated if she presses the issue. How scary is that -- lose her job or possibly jeopardize her baby's health or her own? Fortunately she may be protected by the Pregnancy Discrimination Act and the Family and Medical Leave Act. 06:58 PM#
Shyness May Be Inherited
An article in The New York Times reports on a study that was published in the journal Science. According to the study kids may inherit shyness. That doesn't mean a shy child will act shy as an adult though. Harvard University researcher Jerome Kagan, who authored the study, says that "people overcome their shyness.''
