Dear Subscriber,

I want to wish you a happy holiday. My advice to you is this: take a few moments for yourself. Relax and enjoy this festive season. I'll be doing the same. I'll be on vacation from tomorrow (December 22nd) through Wednesday, January 3rd. I promise to answer all my email when I return.

Taking a “time out” from the frenzied pace of our lives gives us a chance to reflect on our accomplishments over the past year. Taking a step back allows us to return to our hectic lives refreshed, full of new ideas, and the strength to implement them.

With that in mind, enjoy the holidays, whichever ones you celebrate. Happy New Year. Here's to a joyous and productive 2001.

Yours Truly,
Dawn

Introducing the Career Planning Glossary

As you plan your career or job hunt you'll probably come across some terms with which you're unfamiliar. I've put together a glossary to help you. It's a work-in-progress so if the term you're looking for isn't there please send it to me. In the subject line of the message please write “glossary.” I'll send you the definition, and add it to the glossary.

Relax -- What's That?

Are you ready to take some time off but can't figure out exactly how to slow down? For many of us who seem to be in perpetual motion, it's keeping going that's easy and stopping that's hard. Nevertheless, it's important to slow down. Here's help.

Career Change

When the holidays are over, and you look back on 2000, you may decide that the time is right for a career change. Here are resources that will help you decide whether the time is right for a change, and if so, how to go about making one.

"I'm one of the multitude of unemployed computer programmers in this country. Specifically, I'm an Oracle database developer. As the demand for my skillset is ever shrinking and virtually nonexistent, I am wondering if it is time to move on. Does anyone have any success stories about career changes: IT to plumber, IT to carpenter, etc.?"
