The Resume Catalog: 200 Damn Good Examples, in its second edition, was written by Yana Parker. Ms. Parker is also the author of The Damn Good Resume Guide, and maintains a Web site at www.damngood.com. It is an excellent resource both for those writing their own resumes and for those who write resumes professionally.
The Resume Catalog is just that: a catalog of resumes. It contains resume samples for 200 job titles across 13 job categories. These are real resumes written by Ms. Parker for her clients. According to the author, these are resumes of people who do not have "perfect" backgrounds--there are gaps in employment, for example. Being mindful of this, Ms. Parker has included a section on how to resolve or minimize these problems using various strategies.
Here are some examples of the broad job categories and the job titles within them included in this book: Management: Manager Customer Support,Food Franchise Management, Education: Library Assistant, Substitute Teacher, Sales: Outside Sales Rep., Small Store Manager, Religion: Pastoral Minister. Also included are youth and student resumes: Baby-sitting/oddjobs, Internship (public law).
Following the resume portion of this book is a section on cover letters. Included here are tips on how to write a cover letter and eight sample letters. After that is the section on problem solving discussed above. In addition to a general index, there is an index to job objectives.
Yana Parker previously worked for the New York State Department of Labor. She currently operates a resume critique service and provides in-service-training in resume writing.
