By , About.com Guide

Women make up almost half the labor force in the U.S. If you are a working woman, here are some resources that can help you with your career.

1. Balancing Work and Family

Although it is true that men too have to figure out how to balance family responsibilities with their work responsibilities, generally speaking, women take on the bigger share of obligations at home.

2. Alternative Work Arrangements

Many working women find that a typical 9 to 5 schedule doesn't mesh well with their responsibilities at home and therefore choose an alternative work arrangement that provides more flexibility. These arrangement include temping, flextime, job sharing and self-employment.

3. Sexual Harassment at Work

Sexual harassment can make for an uneven playing field at work. If your boss or a co-worker makes unwelcome sexual advances, requests sexual favors, or subjects you to any other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature, you can file a complaint with Equal Opportunity Employment Commission (EEOC).

4. Deciding Whether to Change Your Name

Marriage, or divorce, for many women means having to decide whether or not to change one's name. There are several options available.

5. Choosing a Non-Traditional Career

Why should you consider a non-traditional occupation? There is a still a significant pay differential between men and women, but women working in non-traditional occupations earn more money than those working in traditionally female occupations.
