From the article: Calling in Sick to Work
Life is busy and sometimes work gets in the way. The weekends are short and personal days are few, so on occasion you may have felt the need to call in sick in order to get something done (or get nothing done). What excuses have you given your boss for taking a sick day? Share Your Story

Punished

Where I work if you miss a day of work, sick or not you get a point and if you get so many points you get fited. They do not accept Dr. notes and they don't care what you have or if you can spread it to others at work including customers.

getting punished for being sick

I didn't hate my job. I actually liked it until I got punished for actually being sick. See it was Christmas night and I had a fever, sore throat, coughing and sneezing. I went to the ER because I needed meds or something and it being Christmas my doctor was closed. So I found out I had acute sinusitis, and an upper respiratory infection, and after I got out of the ER I called my boss to tell her I will not be coming in to work due to illness and I told her what I had and she didn't care. She said I better find someone to cover my shift and I better have a doctor's note, and I better call for the schedule tomorrow because it will be changing. I asked why was I being punished and she said because you are punishing us by being sick. Then she took 2 whole days away from me. How fair is that???

Success story

I hate my job, majority of people in the kitchen i work with are non-english speakers. I feel like an exile in my own country. so I looked for another job but the interview date crashed with the shift on current job. So I phoned in, asked if i can speak with a male staff as I am ashamed to say what i wish to tell, and explained that i have a violent diarrhea and heaving constantly. If it didn't stop within next hour, I will go to doctors to have myself examined. They didn't ask much questions, they said if it is a food poisoning, you will have to stay away from the kitchen for at least 48hours. extra day off woraaaay :D

Getting Paid (Back) for Calling in Sick

Years ago, during my last couple of weeks on a summer job, I decided I needed a day off to hang out with a friend who was heading back to college in a few days. I didn't have any personal days so I decided there would be no harm in calling in sick. I wouldn't get paid for the missed day anyway so I didn't feel too bad about it. I called, saying I had a bad cold, and spent a relaxing day hanging out at a lake with my friend. The next day I woke up with a horrible sore throat and had to call in sick -- for real this time. Coincidence or karma? I'll never know, but I always thought twice about calling in sick after that.
